Knowing more general ways to cook them only works in our favor. The transformation from raw to cooked never ceases to inspire and once you learn the overall cooking processes, you can tackle any vegetable like a pro. Below is just a start of ways you can experiment with vegetables but hopefully this inspire more vegetable cooking in your kitchen. Blanching Blanching is a quick cooking process that involves submerging vegetables in boiling water for a short period of time. This process helps vegetables lose that extreme crispy bite that might be too much for some meals. Blanching works great for items like asparagus, broccoli and cauliflower but can also be great for greens. How to blanch To blanch, bring a pot of salted water to a boil with a bowl of ice water nearby. Drop in your prepped vegetables and let them cook for only a few minu...

Custom Cabinets For Master Bathroom

When it comes to deciding what kind of cabinets you want to put in your kitchen or bathroom, we always tell our customers that the options are endless!  Where To Find Your Inspir ation You can look around on the internet at Houzz , Pinterest, or any picture from anywhere, and we can make it happen!  Recently we had a homeowner who found a particular cabinet she loved on Houzz. This particular cabinet had drawers with lots of space on the bottom while still having large enough cabinets to use for plumbing and storage. We were able to build these for her. We made the doors with a soft close option, and the whole thing looks fantastic.  Custom Cabinets Vs. Prefab This was a custom build, so we actually built the entire cabinet to fit the exact size of her bathroom wall. You don't get that kind of fit with a prefab cabinet. The problem with a prefab cabinet is that you have to adjust it to the size of the space you have available. You often have to add fitters on the sides and in the m...

Nine Healthier One-bowl Baking Recipes

Imahe
One bowl baking is the best. Even better if you can hand mix the batter. Dragging a large mixer onto the counter and then washing and wiping it down, is an effective deterrent. With a lot of these you're literally five minutes from having a cake ready to go in a pre-heated oven. 1. One-Bowl Yogurt and Honey Olive Oil Cake – (The Kitchn) My favorite kind of cake – humble and unfussy, simple and balanced. Honey-sweetened, and flecked with thyme, I love that it can swing from sweet to savory. Get the recipe here. 2. One Bowl Banana Bread – (101 Cookbooks) The laziest one bowl banana bread I know of. Made with whole wheat flour, bananas, dark brown sugar, and coconut milk. Get the recipe here . 3. 1-Bowl Vegan Chocolate Cake – (Minimalist Baker) Just look at that cross-cut. Looks really good. Made with whole wheat pastry flour, almond milk, and strong brewed coffee. Get the recipe here . 4. Kim Boyce's Whole Wheat Gingersnaps – (3191 Mies Apart) Hard to go wrong with a Kim Boyc...

My Newly Refinished Wood Bathroom Countertop (And A Peek At The New Cabinet Color)

Imahe
I've been spending the last couple of days working on my hallway bathroom makeover that I mentioned earlier this week. I should have it finished up this weekend and be ready to move on to other projects. But y'all, I'm pretty excited because after years and years of struggling with staining pine, I think I've finally found the magic method for getting rid of those hideous (to me) orange and yellow undertones that come through when you put stain on pine. I've had a love/hate relationship with pine for well over a decade now. I love it because it's cheap and abundantly available. But I hate it because getting it just the right color with stain is virtually impossible. But my pine-staining woes may be a thing of the past! This bathroom countertop is one that I built from 2″ x 3″ pine lumber four years ago when I remodeled this hallway bathroom. I had such a hard time getting the finish right and getting rid of all of those orange and yellow undertones in the wood t...
